Corp SP: +$250.00 Betfair SP: +$303.50Obviously the results system once again failed to trigger (we’re aware of the delicateness of it at the moment and are working on a full replacement shortly) so here’s a resend for those who didn’t get it:
Like Caulfield, we manage to lock in a solid profit at Royal Randwick as we nab a fantastic $8.00/$9.07 winner over in the late races to take us into profit for the day with #6 Quick Thinker getting the nose ahead of $13.00 #7 Zebrowski.

Starting us off early in R2 we saw Bowman put in a very average performance on top of the $7.00/$6.37 #2 Promotions as Betfair makes a rare BSP price under the official SP for an abysmal bit of value on top of their massive NSW commissions.
Pumping from the jump it looked like we would be able to settle well early but Bowman made the weird decision to pull the pin a couple hundred meters as we hit the 1200m mark.
The abrupt change in speed looked like a terrible bit of strategy given the capabilities of our runner, with an attempt to recover not coming until the 400m mark where we get smacked back into place by #6 Bottega and forced up to the flanks of #5 Grand Piano.
Of course, come the 100m it was #6 Bottega who got the stronger position. Although we assume that Bowman was attempting to pull off the same maneuver (but got beaten to the pip) we definitely think it was the wrong move and cost us dearly in the run.
In our preview we mentioned that #3 Reloaded had nothing to impress – and failed to deliver in the race – whilst #5 Grand Piano was incredibly short for us and performed far closer to the $5.50 mark we had the 3 year old at.
With #7 Entente locking it down at a whopping $17 having maintained a dominant position through the entire length of the track, it’s obvious that the 3 year old was able to excel in the conditions. Given the massive improvement around the gelding in 2020 this is one that we’re probably not alone in putting into the black book for future races.

Fortunately we claw back the stake loss as we jump out to R7 with #6 Quick Thinker managing the tiniest of margins again #7 Zebrowski as we lead the field at $8.00/$9.07 to largely maintain the earlier price with a big fat full unit returning a whopper for Basic and Platinum members alike to lock in our profit for the day across both meetings.
Pumping out to a solid start at the jump, we’re head and neck down with #6 Quick Thinker right up the middle with a very strong bit of speed with the pack failing to tighten. This led to a hilarious pack lead with the commentary unsure what to do as around 8 of the runners vied for pack leader position.
By the time we get through most of the turn, we’re sitting comfortably in 2nd against #12 Sacramento with the danger being the sheer number of runners all stuck together without clear lanes.
Bosson does a fantastic job of controlling #6 Quick Thinker as the 3 year old gets that head bob going as he stops the early run and instead pulls him up and out to the outside as he lets #3 Warning pass up and begin to run down the stamina.
Coming up to the 1200m we continue keeping the energy in check as #4 Sherwood Forest kicks early to take on #12 Sacramento with #3 Warning coming in third.
From here, the head bob is back and Bosson turns the throttle on this time just past the 600m to send #3 Warning reeling back to the inside as we shoot up to the lead and force the pack in with an aggressive diagonal cross come the 400m mark.
It’s here that we all but clip the wings of most of the field as the traffic combined with the track conditions is simply too much to overcome as we cut down the competition from the pack.
#5 Eric the Eel avoided the brunt of the move sitting on the opposite lane and manages a wicked go at it before pulling up slightly around the 130m mark with #7 Zebrowski and #6 Quick Thinker far and away from the rest of the pack as the two great beasts go hard at it.
With just a handful of meters left we get the neck ahead to lock in the official margin of 0.20L as we show-case the absolute state of the race with #2 Shadow Hero 4th at a ridiculous 7.50L as the 2400m stamina chaser showcases what makes racing so damned exciting.
Despite the close margin we’re very happy with the effort put in and the run here mirrors the strategic run put in by #4 Exasperate in our Caulfield tips as the decision to cut diagonally across the pack and force them into the worst part of the track paid massive dividends when combined with the masterful control of the horse and knowing exactly how to hold off with the competitive streak of the animal and when to let it burst out with the head bob clearly communicating to anyone exactly what was going through the brain!

Whilst we’re well and truly locked in with profit at this point, it was a disappointing finish to the day as #13 Loving Gaby ($7.00/$6.74) fails to deliver on the promise of a strong run as margins get even longer in R8 and we finish without any return for the effort.
From the jump it was #6 Vega Daze making the moves with a very strange looking form looking similar to the Antioqueño paso finos over in Colombia!
Of course, it didn’t take much for the exhausting hopping to be overtaken by the pack, with market favourite #1 Nature Strip shooting out and securing a solid position near the front of the pack as #6 Vegadaze begins to pull in at the turn with #11 White Moss, #3 Santa Ana Lane and #10 Tofane all pulling strong.
That’s about it for the highlights, with #13 Loving Gaby barely making a mark on the field, having lost the advantage around the 1000m mark in what was, without a doubt, the worst performing bet of the day.
Interestingly we saw many of the pack leaders fall hard and pull back significantly once #1 Nature Strip really got going, with the hard 2.00L margin grabbing the well deserved 4th G1 with both hands at a price that was probably far more deserving of the $2.70 that Benitoite demanded over at Caulfield.

Like our comments at Caulfield, we worked around a tough day and managed to avoid the brunt of the impact, with double digit wheelbarrows dominating the field with the majority of the races coming in very random order.
Although we’re very happy with the run from #6 Quick Thinker, we’re incredibly disappointed that #13 Loving Gaby appeared to pull up the breaks early on what should have at least been a solid attempt to materialise something at the 1200m.
Outside of that, however, we’re forgiving in the first with Bowman’s decision to take a weird run a bit of a let down but over-all market conditions incredibly positive for us punters in that we started to once again see the prices diverge from the official SP to help cover the commission and lock in some extra value over on the exchanges.
