No return for the effort over at Royal Randwick today, although we got incredibly close with our $15.00/$18.50 bet on #3 Come Along in R6.

Looking through the results for the rest of the races the fields were all over the place so we made the right call by skipping out on the majority of the offerings, with the biggest example of this in R3 where market favourite $3.30 #3 Foxborough finished a whopping 20.50L behind in dead last position.

Of course the 2nd mention goes to #10 Miss Einstein at $2.70L in our first bet of the day in R6 as she was beat to the pump by $13.00 #8 Opacity, and just 0.80L ahead of our own $15.00/$18.50 bet on #3 Come Along.

R6 saw us jump out late to $20.00 on the exchanges before stabilising around the $18.00 and settling at 18.50 – a nice little boost for Platinum members from our early morning price on #3 Come Along at $12.00 and probably a side-effect of all of the issues we mentioned with the track finally coming to the fore-front of punters.

Strangely enough, punter sentiment for #5 Agassi was right up there as the market jumped at a price of $4.60/$5.00, but ran average at best to finish leading the 2nd half of the pack in 6th position – although we’re very thankful for the opportunity this created for us in terms of price.

Whilst we didn’t get the win this time around, we certainly smashed our rated price as we pumped through the $5.90 mark to just $4.10 in-play, with a couple of traders making big bucks as someone managed to lay it off at $44.00 before coming back in at $7.00.

With the final price being a 451% overlay against our rated price in-play, we’re certainly happy that we had the numbers go our way given how absolutely horrendous the racing has been across most of the day.

Surprisingly for us, #10 Miss Einstein did quite well, getting down to the low $1.00s before getting knocked on the head by #8 Opacity at the final stretch in what would have had many a punter tearing their tickets to shreds as she sat at a very short price in the late market.

In terms of the run itself it was a pretty consistent effort as we maintained 3rd all the way from the 800m mark, with just a bit of extra speed needed to overcome the small margin. Without a doubt, however, a close 3rd at $18.00 is an exceptional pick and well and we managed to well and truly outperform the market.

R7 on the other hand, was absolutely dominated by $18.00 #8 Witherspoon who excelled in the wet to finish a whopping 3.50L ahead of the rest of the pack, including leaving $3.50 market favourite #13 Switched in the dust.

Removing the leader from the race, it was a reasonably tight finish for the rest of the pack with just 0.7L between a wall of 5 runners including our own #2 Enfleurage who jumped at $4.20/$5.79 with Platinum members well and truly rewarded with the late price smashing the official SP.

Considering the absolute rort and the state of the track here, we won’t draw too many conclusions of the run as it’s likely that we’ll be introducing significant biases into the data.

We would’ve liked #2 Enfleurage to continue his dominating early position in 2nd, but clearly it’s a moot point given the absolute margin afforded to #8 Witherspoon with an incredible run out of the gate to lead the race.

Although we got very close today, it wasn’t quite as profitable for us as the other meetings but as mentioned earlier on – and what we hope is clear to all members – the conditions were absolutely dangerous and plenty of other punters no doubt came off far worse than our two decent goes at it.
