Unlike Caulfield, we saw no reward for the effort at Royal Randwick as we had our positions cut to pieces off the back of some late scratches leaving us with just the single position to play in R7.

We mentioned that R4 was one that we wanted to stay out of as #5 Romani Girl comes in significantly to $2.70 but only managing to win by a tiny 0.20L against $10 #6 Insensata, and almost run down at 0.60L by $26.00 #4 Mongolian Wolf – making it a smart move to stay out.

With R5 and R6 also going the way of the short priced favourites, it was R7 where we had our go at it on the big price of $21.00 on #2 Glenall.

Both #5 Alizee and #1 Kolding failed to take the crown with our own pick finishing just 0.30L off the back of the $7.5 million Golden Eagle winner as #9 Standout smashes home at $7.50 and a 1.50L margin to devastate short price backers.

For us, the biggest trouble was the early position against the rail whilst we were proven correct in our questions around #1 Kolding as we still managed to maintain our lead at the 400m mark.

The one we expect to have frustrated the most amount of people, however, is the massive stitch on #7 Irithea who hit an empty tank just past 400m to fall in against the rail causing us to get locked in between #6 White Moss and a horrible go from McEvoy as the strategy fails to hold up as traffic locks down the late run.

Interestingly, the $1.90 price on #5 Alizee failed to perform at all with the 5 year old unable to find pace under Bowman as too much pressure on the neck at the 100m causes the form to fall to pieces and all momentum to be thrown out the window.

Whilst we didn’t get the cookie this time, we weren’t necessarily upset at the performance from #2 Glenall as it was largely a case of the map causing problems for us as the decision to take up the inside well and truly locked us up with no opportunity to jet out where we needed to be.

With that being said; we obviously factored this into the stake, and the 6 year old certainly performed admirably despite the price so we won’t be too hard done by it.

Of course, with that the one and only bet for the day at Royal Randwick we’re forced to keep the powder dry around our late scratches for the next opportunity.
