A frustrating result for us in Caulfield as we get incredibly close on a big $14.00/$13.90 price around #5 Button Express and a close late 2nd on #11 Jamaican Hurry.

Our shot in R2 was the closest as we jetted out to 1st place in what was a smart move to get out to the front of the pack given the short 1100m.

Although we managed to fight off #8 Felicia and #9 Kalkarni Royale early, it was a strong push late from #1 Lankan Star and #6 Paul’s Regret that took advantage of our slow-down before #3 Broadwayandfourth managed a very strong finish to come 1st from 8th.

Given the length of the track we’re pretty disappointed to see the stamina get sucked up so much, and annoying to not find the collect given how we hit our overlay and rated price without too many issues.

We really shouldn’t be seeing such a slow down across this type of track, but some very strong turn of foot from the late trailers definitely didn’t help.

R5 was in a similar vain as we got much closer on our full unit on #11 Jamaican Hurry at $7.00/$7.80 to finish 2nd against #10 Great Duchess as the wild-card out classes us by just 0.80L.

It was a dominating finish too, given that 3rd position sat well and truly behind us at 3.10L.

We mentioned in the preview that we would’ve needed #10 Great Duchess to get out of the way, and although this was fine in the early as we led her coming into the 400m, it’s that inconsistency in her performance (although a very good horse) that is always a tough one to figure out.

With that being said, #11 Jamaican Hurry put in a very very strong effort against a very strange map as #15 O’ So Hazy goes from 1st to dead last at 17.00L the official margin.

Our backup on #8 Pariano looked very strong at $13.00/$12.25 early as we pushed through 2nd position, but just like #13 She’s a Thief who trailed just behind us, we saw the final 400m really break the pack leaders.

We would’ve liked to see better staying power on the mare so we’re a little disappointed to see the final result.

With just the two sets of races bet into today there’s not a lot that can be added on top – we saw a mixed bag reflected in the sprinting ability and not enough length to recover some of the mistakes.

#11 Jamaican Hurry was the stand-out pick and just a slightly better finish would’ve been all we needed to lock in the profit for the day.
