No return for the effort at Morphettville as our small plays across the meeting see a close result on #10 La Belle Jude at a massive $61.00/$70.65 finishing 1.60L off the cookie – not bad for a wheelbarrow of a runner!

We made the correct choice to stay out of most of the races today with hugely mixed results and plenty of double digit winners taking down the market leaders and favourites, with the big one against our own bet in R7 as #8 Dexter You Devil came down to $9.00 in-play before #13 Seabrook and #9 Harbour Views bounced back and forth at $1.50 before being pipped on the nose by $101 shot #12 Chapel City for the biggest upset of the month so far.

Over at R6 we were impressed with the run out of #10 La Belle Jude – especially at the big prices available – but we truly put to rest the question around the distance with as the stretch to 2030m wasn’t too bad for the 6 year old mare having left crowd favourite $3.40 #2 Girl Tuesday in the dust.

Of course we factored in the chances of this bet coming home and brought in the outlay significantly to just the 1/3rd unit, although we certainly hit the overlay with our rated price coming in at just $8.71.

Although it wasn’t quite there this time around (and that’s really the story of the Puntalyser career for #10 La Belle Jude!) with yet another place for us on the runner, the value was certainly there and we’re happy with the way that she ran.

The late price on the favourite came out significantly from the early $2.65 but even at an SP of $3.40 we would’ve needed double digits to even consider #2 Girl Tuesday as an option – with a late plunge on winner #13 Oasis Girl the impetus behind our pump out in price as we saw a small amount of liquidity on the exchanges at $95 for our bet (although it was a handful of dollars and didn’t stay around long).

Overall, we’d love to see #10 La Belle Jude back in at the 1800m mark as we led very handily across both the 400m and 800m, maintaining a strong 2nd position that clearly wasn’t able to get the full blast with the extra couple hundred of meters.

That leaves us with a very average result in R7 as the only positive around #8 Dexter You Devil was the jump in price to $13.00/$14.48 providing a bit of an advantage over the early $10.00.

Of course, all eyes are on the $101 winner from #12 Chapel City with an excellent turn of foot at the 80m mark to take down the $3.90 leader #13 Seabrook at an official margin of 0.20L leading 1.90L ahead of crowd favourite #9 Harbour Views.

From our own bet, there was some absolutely horrendous riding in the second half of the pack and Toeroek did absolutely nothing to get the 5 year old going anywhere near where what we would have needed to hit our overlay as we get down to $9.00 at the peak a far cry from the mid $4.00s we were hoping to see.

With just the pair of bets to reflect on, it was a mixed day with a small margin between a big big win, balanced out by the lower-than-usual outlay for us.
