Corp SP: +$285.00 Betfair SP: +$339.00A much needed finish for us over at Royal Randwick today as we bring in just under 6 units of profit for Basic members, and just under 7 units of profit for Platinum members taking positions at BSP as our double whammy on #4 Quackerjack manages to fire – even at a disappointingly shorter price of $5.00/$5.89 versus our $7.50 available earlier in the day.

Starting with R1 and we fail to see much in the way from #3 Depth That Varies with the huge field causing massive issues in traffic as we see absolutely no rhyme or reason to the 16 horse field.
There’s not much to be said here – we managed to sit smack bang in the middle, with the tiny margins between the positions showcasing exactly how tough it was for anyone out past a couple of lengths to get a position.
Having secured a very unfavourable position coming into the 400m mark, there was very little chance of overcoming the rest of the field.

It was the right move to skip over R2 and R3 with results all across the board as the market fails to pick the unraced wheelbarrows.
Fortunately, things were significantly better in R4 despite some large price movements on our 2 unit pick #4 Quackerjack securing an SP of $5.00 and a BSP only slightly better at $5.89 as we have both units come home to roost for an 8 unit collect at Basic and just under 10 units at Platinum.
Of course it was a close one with #10 Vegadaze giving us a run for the money all the way to the end as we get the nose ahead with a last minute burst to take full advantage of our very strong position.
The dominance was clear from the start as we shot out to 2nd around 100m out from the jump, maintaining that comfortable position through both the 800m and the 400m mark.
With the rest of the pack left behind and the fantastic pace, it really was just a battle between the two of them as we put the pressure on #10 Vegadaze coming into the 600m with a push up against the barrier allowing us to ensure that more favourable position leading the outside.
An absolutely shocker go at it between #2 Cascadian and #3 Imaging at the 350m mark really sealed the deal as a hyper aggressive move from Glen Boss essentially pushed the entire pack up in a very dangerous bit of interference that we expect to be queried with the stewards – there’d be absolutely no surprise for us here if it results in a costly suspension coming into more Group racing
Having basically been handed the race on a silver platter, we put the neck down and turned on the boosters as #10 Vegadaze began to show signs of wearying from the early pump and with just the hundred meters left to go it was enough for us to close the margin and get the much needed win for the February results.
Given the interference from #2 Cascadian we certainly managed to enjoy exceptional conditions, but having put that aggressive energy into a hypothetical run it could have been a far different result as the 5 year old had an impeccable opening.
Fortunately, however, it did go our way today – we simply would have liked to see the price closer to the $7.50 as the market managed to largely find our edge and take a decent chunk of money out of our pockets.

Our last one for the day in R5 and it was a frustrating result as #4 Sweet Deal put in a shocking finish to give it up by just 0.10L to $13.00 wheelbarrow #9 Dawn Dawn who managed to come from 8th at the 400m to grab the win.
If you’ve been with us for a while you’ll know that we don’t often back $2.00 shots and it certainly seems to be the case lately that when we do, they end up getting flinged!
Our backup play on #1 Reelem in Ruby failed to put in much of an effort, maintaining 7th all the way through to the end.
Most frustratingly, we maintained an excellent position through the early race, putting intense pressure on #7 Sweet Scandal’s very early dominance.
Coming into the 400m is where we saw the trouble start as both #9 Dawn Dawn and #6 Pohutakawa had clear open positions on the outside and took full advantage of it, whilst the stitch on #3 Fiesta forced the mare back and into the pack allowing us to get clear on the barrier.
Disappointingly, the effort of leading the pack across essentially the entire field meant that we simply didn’t have the speed or energy reserves required to get it here – although we’re as surprised as everyone else that both #9 Dawn Dawn and #6 Pohutakawa were able to go the full effort even with a very advantageous bit of room.
Having picked up the 2nd, and with #1 Reelem in Ruby failing to perform, that meant that frustratingly we failed to at least break even on what should have been an easy result in the pocket.

We’re obviously over the moon that we managed to see a return to what is a normal metro day for us after a series of close finishes over the last couple of weeks.
With that being said, we would’ve liked to see some better stability in the market – especially in R4 of course, and the result on #4 Sweet Deal feels like a kick in the teeth.
We didn’t see as much action out of our other roughies which was disappointing, but obviously it’s a small sample size and unusual to not at least see a couple of goes on those bigger prices.

A quick apologies for the results coming out so late – as can sometime happen with anything technical it took us a bit longer than expected to get the needed updates through.
We will have all three meetings updated right now so please contact us if you did not receive the update (or can’t see it in your Members Section) as we hope that we’ve managed to iron out all of the bugs.
